Federal lawmakers recently passed the Federal Lawmakers Pass Veterans Care Financial Protection Act in an overwhelming vote. The bill was sponsored by many congresspersons and United States senators, ranging from Senator Marco Rubio to Representative Ted Deutch. The bill, if enacted by the President, would make it obligatory for the Veterans Administration Secretary to provide a warning to Aid and Attendance benefit applicants of any possible unscrupulous behavior from scammers and predators who target veterans.
The Bill would also require the Government Accountability Office to begin studies on the impact of scams and cons on applicants for federal benefits.
West Palm Beach attorney Mark Shalloway, comments on the potential impact of the Veterans Care Financial Protection Act:
“This bill is a powerful step in the right direction towards protecting our veterans from scammers and unscrupulous businesses that prey on elder veterans. Our veterans deserve the very best medical care and protection from our federal government. This bill will better protect recipients of Medicare, Medicaid, and Aid & Attendance benefits. We always recommend that veterans never provide their Medicare ID number to anyone who is not their physician or insurer.”

The line separating thriving from surviving can sometimes be a very small one. For Beovich, Walter & Friend (BWF), the Portland, Oregon court reporters, thriving means staying ahead of the technology and competition curve. This manifests itself in small and subtle ways, from expanding a website to encompass mobile-friendly bookings to developing a strong social media presence and adapting new wi-fi technologies for faster Internet connections in conference rooms.

Court reporting is one of those niche industries in the legal profession not many people think about until they need one. For attorneys court reporters are an indispensable part of building a successful case, regardless of the area of practice.
Because court reporting is part of a legal industry that prioritizes the formal and conservative over the risk-taking and the forward-thinking when it comes to many business practices it is common to find the reporting industry far behind many others when it comes to technological advancements and usage.
Cady Reporting are Cleveland court reporters who reject that slow and steady trope when it comes to their ability to maximize technology for their success. The word “technology” can mean many things to many people, from a new smartphone to a new medication. For court reporting, technologies as varied as high speed wi fi and mobile-ready websites play an integral part in a company’s success.
Cady Reporting is a firm that has blended their technological savvy with traditional values to carve out a special dominant position within the Cleveland, Ohio local marketplace. Since they are also a member of the National Network Reporting Company (NNRC) court reporters directory, Cady Reporting maintains a national presence. This ability to work locally and nationally with attorneys and law firms makes Cady’s mobile booking engine and online repositories two of the most prominent technical advancements in the company’s repertoire.
President Chuck Cady elaborates:
“We work hard to stay at the digital and technological forefront, whether that means thinking outside the box on Facebook or maintaining a dazzling website where attorneys and professionals can book services from their smartphones 24/7.”
This emphasis on adaptability and mobility has been a big factor in the company’s success. Since most court reporting firms are small operations, usually between 3 and 10 employees, their resources are limited and often they fail to maintain even the basics of a professional business presence. Just look at some of their websites, for example!
For Cady Reporting, the ability to maintain very personal ties and provide personalized service to each client with the latest technologies in videography, conference rooms and reporting equipment makes for a dominant position within the industry and serves as a textbook success story for all in the legal professions.
Every attorney understand the importance of a winning team. Whether you are looking for an expert witness, a court reporter or a paralegal, the many moving parts of building a case require faith in the expertise of your legal staff.
The Directory of Choice for Court Reporting Firms
When it comes to court reporters, picking the right company or lone practitioner for a case is not always so obvious, particularly for attorneys who need to travel across the state or the nation.
Our team has researched the top court reporter directories online in an effort to provide our readers with a comprehensive review of their options. The winner, hands down, is the National Network Reporting Company (NNRC). Their court reporter directory is searchable in a number of ways and includes a number of superb legal resources ranging from a blog on legal news to an Areas of Practice section for various types of legal professionals.
Partner of the Week
Membership within NNRC also brings with it certain privileges. Each company within the NNRC court reporting firm family is granted market exclusivity for their region or city. Members are also featured in a special “Partner of the Week” section on the organization’s website with a special link on the home page. These pages include interviews with the proprietors or presidents of each firm as well as an overview of their history, list of services and more.
The directory includes a searchable menu organized by three sections: USA, Canada, and Europe. This menu includes many sub-sections for cities and states/provinces. The geographical division of the members is accompanied by a member’s index as well. There is also an immediate link to book a firm where an NNRC representative will process the request and distribute it to the appropriate member.
NNRC is a unique organization in many ways, not least because of their state-of-the-art and searchable directory. Users can explore the list of reporting companies by name, city, or state. Each facet of the search index includes a built-in navigation menu and clickable map of the United States.
A good court reporting company will provide services as varied as transcriptions, conference room rentals, litigation support, videoconferencing and, of course, real time reporting for depositions and other needs. Each NNRC member offers these services and many more. Each company in the NNRC family is pre-screened and must pass a membership review before joining the organization.
Legal News, Trends and Technologies
Even more impressive is the NNRC blog which acts as both a legal news source and an index of newly-created pages and other content for the entirety of the site.
NNRC is one of the nation’s oldest court reporting organizations with a very high standard of services and inter-member cooperation. For court reporting professionals the NNRC list of resources is a superb index of articles and documents on the latest trends, technologies and events within the reporting and litigation support industries.
24/7 Mobile-Friendly Bookings
The NNRC Scheduling Form is a state-of-the-art mobile-friendly page that allows attorneys, paralegals, and other professionals a fluid and dynamic way to book a service from any device: computer, tablet or smartphone. The form’s recipients are immediately notified of the bookings and respond immediately. This streamlined booking system allows for faster schedulings and last-minute services, an especially convenient and efficient tool for attorneys on the run or out of town.
The importance of pro bono services for attorneys, particularly smaller law firms and single practice professionals, cannot be over-stated. There is both a personal reward of gratification and a communal sense of accomplishment and philanthropy in giving one’s services to those less fortunate.
Mark Shalloway, an elder care and wills & trusts attorney in West Palm Beach, Florida is one strong example of leading the way in pro bono services with his free community seminars. The classes are informational sessions to help men and women from all walks of life learn more about the intricacies of caring for the elderly, insurance requirements, estate planning, caring for special needs loved ones and many other topics.
The seminars are free and open to the public and have been very warmly-received by the area legal community. The sessions are usually held at various community centers and include question/answer sessions with the Firm’s President, G. Mark Shalloway.
With the skyrocketing costs of senior care and the very real world concerns of legal and insurance requirements, children and parents both benefit from these endeavors by the firm.
